Eating and Drinking in Edinburgh
(Edinburgh, Scotland)
Restaurants in Edinburgh
Many superb restaurants serving up tasty food from around the world have their location in Edinburgh. Visitors can enjoy everything from fast food to gourmet cuisine, often at reasonable prices. Traditional Scottish foods include haggis (a stuffed sheep's stomach), and game, while the favourite tipple is naturally Scotch whisky. A number of good restaurants are located in the Old Town, New Town and areas such as Stockbridge, Broughton, Leith and Newhaven among others.
Edinburgh has an exciting nightlife and many pubs, bars and nightclubs can be found throughout the city, with many of them serving food and offering live music or entertainment.
Whisky is, of course, the national tipple and one that they are proud of. A whisky tour, which departs from the city daily under the organisation of numerous tour companies, is a wonderful, if somewhat drunken, experience that takes in some of the famous distilleries in the outlying areas. Traditional old Scottish pubs, both in the new town, and more historic ones in the medieval part of the city will have a dozen or more brands for you to choose from.
